Confetti to Confection

What began as a confetti is suddenly a confection. When visitors to The New York Botanical Garden round the bend headed to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, they are literally pulled off the main path by the bulb revelry in progress along the Seasonal Walk. With temperatures suddenly soaring, the border staged an incredible medley of hits with most of its spring performers on stage simultaneously.
Not only are the perennials popping, but the spring bulbs are in unison. The full impact of narcissus, tulips, and muscari blending with newly sprouted buns of perennials is unlike any other escapade we’ve seen in this country. All the perennials are now up and running. But the astilbe, echinacea, teucrium, and origanum are all adding to the symphony with riveting and/or colorful leaves long before flowering. Plus, Piet Oudolf’s ingenious pairings of
Geum ‘Flames of Passion’ and
Phlox divaricata ‘Clouds of Perfume’ ratchet up the bulb performance another notch.
