Orchestrated Magic

The magic that Oudolf and van der Kloet orchestrated is a far different animal from your typical spring display. The display is more natural and less like a big blast of color than your usual bulb spectacle. Even though the perennials are playing only a cameo role in the Seasonal Walk at this juncture, they are now very much a part of the synergy of the space.
They punctuate the bulbs; they give the scene rhythm and mood. The collar of leaves forming a frill around the base of the tulips anchors but also softens the proceedings, cushioning the display in froth. The perennials add soul, but they are also part of the dialogue between colors. With the perennials stepping out and into their limelight, the border has its cadence and also its reserve.
